Banff National Park:

Where to Find the Best Views

Introduction

Banff National Park in Alberta Canada is not short of breathtaking views. The number of options can be overwhelming. So, I’ve listed my favourite lookout points near the Banff townsite for your quick reference! Keep reading to learn about each lookout and the spectacular views they could offer you.

Mount Norquay Lookout

A short but steep drive from Banff National Park is the Mount Norquay Lookout. This location is perfect for a relaxing moment in nature as you take in the beauty of the national park. This lookout has an open grassy area that makes it a great location for a picnic or a morning coffee. The peacefulness of this sight makes it a perfect addition to a day in Banff and the ideal location for a photo of the entire townsite.

Mount Sulphur

The views from the top of Mount Sulphur are gorgeous. On one side you can look down towards the Banff townsite and on the other you find yourself level with the peaks of Pilot Mountain, Mount Brett, and others. You can either hike the well-maintained trail or take the Banff Gondola to the top. The Banff Gondola is expensive, but it can be a great option for several reasons. If you take the Gondola, you end the ride at an interpretive centre with a gift shop and an adorable coffee spot! However, if you are hoping to maximize the views you see, I recommend walking along the wooden path to the top of the summit. Additionally, if you do plan on taking the gondola I recommend arriving early as this is a popular attraction and lines can become lengthy.

Hoodoos Viewpoint

A short walk from the parking lot at Hoodoos Viewpoint is one of the most beautiful scenes in Banff National Park. There is also a 4.3km trail called Hoodoos Trail that offers more breathtaking views of the mountain and the beautiful Bow River. There are red Canada Parks chairs set up at this viewpoint which makes for the perfect opportunity to take a seat, observe nature, and relax in the fresh mountain air. This viewpoint and trail are some of my favourite places to visit in Banff National Park!

Bow Falls Viewpoint

A hidden river trail that runs along the townsite of Banff and leads to gushing falls makes for gorgeous views and photos. The Bow Falls viewpoint is the perfect stroll with the most rewarding views. Part of the path is flat and calm with a pretty view of the river. Eventually, the path includes stairs and a bit more effort as the difficulty increases. This path provides a beautiful view of both the rushing water and the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. This trail is worth the effort and its accessibility from the Banff townsite is a bonus!

Conclusion

Banff National Park is rich in beauty and calmness. These viewpoints are ideal for moments when you want to escape the business of Banff townsite and admire the beauty of the mountains. While there are many other breathtaking viewpoints throughout the park, I wanted to share a few of my favourites with you! Please comment below if you have other viewpoints in the park that you recommend.
